3 Things Needed Before Abortion

If you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy, it’s important to take a few key steps before making a final decision.

Start by confirming your pregnancy with a reliable test and an ultrasound to determine how far along you are and whether the pregnancy is viable. This is especially important if you’re considering an abortion.

At Ascend Women’s Center, these are available at no cost, as well as an abortion information consultation where you can gather accurate, evidence-based information about what to expect with both medical and surgical abortion procedures, and what all your options are.

Take a Pregnancy Test

Before scheduling an abortion, the first step is to confirm your pregnancy with a reliable pregnancy test.

At our center, we offer free, confidential pregnancy testing with almost immediate results. Most drugstores will also carry pregnancy tests, but a follow-up appointment can help confirm the results and determine your next steps.

Schedule an Ultrasound

Once you have confirmed your pregnancy with a positive pregnancy test, the next step is to receive an ultrasound. This simple scan provides critical information such as:

  • Pregnancy’s gestational age (this affects your eligibility for the abortion pill)
  • Pregnancy’s viability (up to 26% of pregnancies are miscarriages)
  • Pregnancy location (will confirm whether or not it’s an ectopic pregnancy)

If you’re experiencing a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy, you will need additional medical attention. An ectopic pregnancy, for example, always requires treatment to prevent serious complications.

Schedule an Abortion Information Consultation

You deserve to have all the facts before making a major decision that could impact your health.
